SORACOM Canal, Direct, and Door allow your Air SIM devices on the SORACOM Platform to connect to your private network in order to access services and resources. When using SORACOM Canal, Direct, or Door, the following fees apply:
- VPG*1 Setup fee: A one-time fee for setting up a new VPG, based on the VPG service type (Canal, Direct, or Door).
- VPG Service fee: An hourly fee for VPG service, based on the VPG service type (Canal, Direct, or Door). Usage is calculated as soon as a VPG is created, and cannot be paused or suspended unless the VPG is deleted.
- VPG Connection fee: An hourly fee for VPG connectivity, based on the type and number of connections from the VPG to your network (VPC peering, Virtual Interface, or VPN connections). Usage is calculated as soon as a VPG connection is created, and cannot be paused or suspended unless the connection is deleted.
- SORACOM Air VPG Option fee: A daily fee for attaching a SORACOM Air SIM to the VPG. This fee applies to each Air SIM in the group that is attached to the VPG, regardless of whether or not the Air SIM is using the VPG connection. Please note: This fee is separate from the Air SIM basic daily fee and data usage fees.
SORACOM Gate is an additional service that allows you to connect to your Air SIM devices on the SORACOM Platform from your private network, or to allow your Air SIM devices to connect with each other. As Gate relies on Canal, Direct, or Door in order to establish the connection between the SORACOM Platform and your private network, the aforementioned fees apply, however there is no additional fee for Gate functionality.
To calculate the pricing for Canal, Direct, Door, or Gate:
Service | Pricing |
---|---|
SORACOM Canal | VPG type-C setup fee (one-time) + VPG type-C service fee (hourly) + VPG type-C connection fee × # of VPC connections (hourly) + Air VPG Option fee × # of Air SIMs in VPG (daily) |
SORACOM Direct | VPG type-D setup fee (one-time) + VPG type-D service fee (hourly) + VPG type-D connection fee × # of Virtual Interfaces (hourly) + Air VPG Option fee × # of Air SIMs in VPG (daily) |
SORACOM Door | VPG type-D setup fee (one-time) + VPG type-D service fee (hourly) + VPG type-D connection fee × # of VPN connections (hourly) + Air VPG Option fee × # of Air SIMs in VPG (daily) |
SORACOM Gate | Pricing is based on the type of service (Canal, Direct, or Door) required for connection to your private network |
Important notes regarding VPG hourly and daily fees:
- The VPG Service fee and VPG Connection fee is calculated automatically as soon as a VPG and connection is created, respectively, and cannot be temporarily paused or suspended. In order to stop the charges, you must delete the VPG as well as any connections associated with the VPG.
Please note: Deleting a VPG or connections will affect all Air SIMs in the groups associated with the VPG.
- The Air SIM VPG Option fee is calculated automatically as soon as the Virtual Private Gateway Settings option is enabled in an Air SIM Group, and cannot be temporarily paused or suspended. However, you can control or stop the charges by adding/removing Air SIMs from the attached Group, or by disabling the Virtual Private Gateway Settings option in order to remove it from the VPG.
Please note: The Air SIM VPG Option fee applies to each Air SIM in a group attached to a VPG, regardless of whether or not it is utilizing VPG connectivity. In addition, the Air SIM VPG Option fee is a separate fee from the Air SIM basic daily fee and data usage fees.

*1: VPG, or Virtual Private Gateway, is a customer-specific gateway that can be configured according to specific use cases, and is a core component for utilizing Soracom services. It allows you to connect your Air SIM devices directly to your own VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) on AWS or other private network, both to simply the process of connecting Air SIM devices to private network services and resources (using Canal, Direct, Door, or Gate), and also to improve security by avoiding Internet-based communication or setting up custom firewall exceptions or routing rules.
