A PIN code acts as a simple password for your IoT SIM. While many devices have the SIM PIN code feature disabled by default, you may occasionally be required to enter one depending on your device configuration. The fault PIN code for Soracom SIM cards is 0000.
Finding the PUK (Personal Unlocking Key)
The PUK is unique to each SIM. You can find the PUK printed on the back of the plastic casing (card) that the SIM was originally attached to.
PUK and Passcode Differences by SIM Type
Depending on your SIM type and how it was purchased, you may need either a PUK or a Passcode for registration and unlocking purposes.
| Feature | Global Coverage SIM | Japan Coverage SIM |
|---|---|---|
| Unlocking Device | Uses PUK | Uses PUK |
| Registration | Uses PUK (if purchased from 3rd party) | Uses Passcode |
Using PUK/Passcode for Registration
While PUKs are primarily used to unlock SIMs after incorrect PIN entries, they are also used during the registration process for certain SIMs.
- Global IoT SIMs: If you purchased your SIM from a third-party vendor (e.g., Amazon), you will need the PUK to register the SIM.
- Japan Coverage SIMs: These SIMs use a specific "Passcode" for registration rather than the PUK.
Note: If you placed your order directly through the Soracom User Console, you do not need the PUK or Passcode for registration. Please refer to the documentation on registering SIMs from an order.
Retrieving a Lost PUK
If you have lost the original SIM casing or packaging and need to retrieve the PUK to unlock your device, you must contact Soracom Support.
When submitting your request, please include a high-quality photo of the SIM card where the ICCID is clearly visible to verify ownership.
