Yes. Although an IoT SIM cannot be registered to more than one Soracom account at a time, its registration can be transferred from one Soracom account to another. This is useful for moving SIMs between project accounts or handing control over to an end-user.
The method for transferring a SIM depends entirely on its current Subscriber Status.
| Subscriber Status | Transfer Method |
|---|---|
| Ready | Self-Service: You can transfer these directly via the User Console or API. |
| Active, Inactive, Standby, Suspended | Support-Assisted: You must submit a transfer request to Soracom Support. |
| Terminated | Not Possible: Terminated SIMs cannot be transferred. You must purchase a new SIM. |
Transferring "Ready" Status SIMs (Self-Service)
If your IoT SIM is in the Ready status, you can transfer it at no cost using the User Console or API. The transfer requires the Email Address and Operator ID of the destination Soracom account.
For detailed steps, see Transferring Ready Status SIMs.
Note: When transferring Ready SIMs, settings such as Tags, Expiration, Termination Protection, Group, and Event Handler are not transferred and will be reset.
Transferring Active, Inactive, Standby, or Suspended SIMs
SIMs that have already been used (status is Active, Inactive, Standby, or Suspended) cannot be transferred via the self-service tools. These transfers are subject to a transfer fee and must be handled by Soracom Support.
For detailed steps, see Transferring SIMs in Other Statuses.
Important Considerations
- Billing: Fees are billed to the source account until the transfer is completed. The transfer fee will be charged to the source account once processed.
- Data Sessions: Existing active data sessions will be deleted automatically during the transfer. You may need to power cycle the device.
- Settings Preservation: Unlike Ready SIM transfers, support-assisted transfers preserve Tags, Expiration settings, Subscription Containers, and IMEI Lock settings. However, Speed Class, Event Handler, Group settings, and Soracom Harvest data are not preserved.
Canceling a Ready SIM Transfer Request
If you have initiated a Ready SIM transfer but the destination account has not yet accepted it, you can cancel the request. For details, see Canceling a SIM Transfer.
