Yes. Under certain circumstances, Soracom may reactivate a SIM that you have set to Suspended status. This is a protective measure to maintain cellular network stability.
If a device with a Suspended SIM continuously attempts to connect to the network, it can cause excessive signaling. To prevent this, Soracom may reactivate the SIM without notice.
Why Reactivation Occurs
When a device with a Suspended SIM attempts to connect, the cellular network sends a rejection signal. A properly configured device should interpret this signal and stop trying to reconnect.
However, some devices may ignore the rejection and repeatedly try to connect to the network's base station. This behavior consumes critical network resources. To resolve this and protect the network, Soracom may change the SIM's status back to Active.
Once a SIM is reactivated, the normal daily fees associated with Active SIMs will apply.
Restoring Device Connectivity
Even after Soracom reactivates a SIM, the device will not automatically reconnect to the network. You must manually power cycle or reboot the device to re-establish a connection.
Because a physical or remote reboot is required, always ensure you have a way to access your device before changing its SIM status to Suspended. Soracom cannot force an offline device to attempt a network connection, as there is no communication path to do so.
