Most Soracom IoT SIM cards are shipped in a 3-in-1 form factor. This design includes all three standard sizes—Mini (Standard), Micro, and Nano—within a single card frame. You can select the appropriate size for your hardware by detaching the corresponding cut-out.
For detailed specifications on card form factors, please refer to the SIM Types & Plans documentation.
Selecting the Correct Size
Before detaching the SIM, verify which size your device requires by checking your hardware manual.
Pictured below are the Nano, Micro, and Mini/Standard sizes (from left to right):
- Nano: The smallest chip size, located in the center.
- Micro: The chip plus the middle plastic frame.
- Mini (Standard): The largest size, consisting of the chip and the outer plastic frame.
Detaching the SIM
Once you have identified the correct size:
- Locate the cut-out corresponding to your required size.
- Apply gentle pressure to detach only that specific size.
Using SIM Adapters
If you accidentally detach a size smaller than your device requires (for example, removing the Nano size when the device requires Micro), you can often reassemble the plastic frames or use a commercial SIM adapter to adjust the size.
Caution: When using a third-party adapter, ensure the SIM is seated securely and lies completely flat before inserting it into your device. Loose frames or misaligned adapters can become stuck inside the SIM slot or potentially damage the internal contact pins.
Next Steps
After resizing your SIM, insert it into your device according to the manufacturer's instructions. For further guidance on getting connected, please refer to the Soracom Quick Start Guide.
